If you're a frequent visitor to Markets Ontario, you'll know that we employ a few amazing makers to run our store. Learn more about the people who make Markets Ontario possible.
If you’ve been to Markets Ontario in the past two years, chances are you’ve met owner and CEO Sarah. She started out as a maker herself, running Dream Day Cookies until the success of the brick and mortar Markets store made it too difficult to continue both businesses as once. The brains behind the store’s operations, Sarah loves everything about supporting local and is passionate about helping others like herself find success in a retail space.
Known to many as Market Mama, Lynne is the sweet face of the Bowmanville store and started out with Dream Day Cookies, baking and loaning out her basement to her daughter for the first ever Markets Ontario permanent vendor space. Most people who pop in know her by her smile (although, in COVID times, they’re missing out). She’s also the owner of Mom’s Relish.
The boss babe behind Mei Designs, Carolina can also be found running ship alongside Barb at the Pickering store – from restocking and cashing customers out, to doing live videos walkthroughs and more. As one of Markets Ontario most successful vendors, Carolina has a wealth of experience when it comes to transitioning a business to a retail environment and offers courage, support and advice to other vendors.
Lisa is an empowerment coach and the owner of That Lisa Hicks, a business devoted to the empowerment and uplifting of womxn. She’s also a mom to two very active boys. Passionate about both shopping and supporting local businesses, you can usually find Lisa working at our Bowmanville location, or spending all her shift money on the goodies and treats at the store.
What started out as a part-time gig restocking the shelves for Pink Lemon Décor soon turned into a seasonal position working at the Brooklin Markets Ontario location last year. Lisa couldn't wait to return, this time at our new Bowmanville location, and you can see her smiling face every weekend. When she’s not at Markets or working for Pink Lemon you can also find her chasing around her energetic, full of sass little girls, Emma and Peyton.
Elaina has been a part of the Markets Ontario family from the beginning – being Sarah’s sister and all. She first started working with Sarah, decorating cookies for her Dream Day Cookies business, later helping Sarah renovate and set up the Brooklin and eventually Bowmanville location, and now helping in the stores on cash and customer service. Outside of work, Elaine is dog mom to her new pup Nova and is a maker herself, creating handmade woodwork through Rustic E Woodwork.
Joe is new to the Markets Ontario staff team, but he’s been a vendor at the Bowmanville location since it first opened. A woodworker by trade, you can find his luxury charcuterie and cutting boards and other custom woodworking projects at his booth, Madera by Joe, at the Bowmanville location. Outside of Markets, you can find him in his workshop or relaxing at home mixing music, playing video games or baking up a storm in the kitchen.
Barb has been with the team since 2020 and is a rockstar employee. You've probably seen her at the Pickering location cashing out, stocking and maybe even doing a little shopping for herself (who doesn't?). As a trained yoga and meditation teacher, she knows how to keep her cool during the crazy weekend rush and is creative maker herself, making her own beaded jewelry on the side. She loves shopping local, and when she's not at work she can be found spending time with her daughters and traveling to the cottage or other cities to explore their local markets and their goodies.
With a range of experience from social media and customer service to administration and event work, Leah is thrilled to be a part of the Markets Ontario team as the marketing and events manager. As someone who started off as a Markets customer, she is passionate towards spreading the shop local message and helping to elevate the overall Markets experience. In her spare time, her priorities are typically surrounded around 3 things; the outdoors, her dog and horror movies.
